Sayville, NY – On May 15, 2008, Colleen West was named as one of Long Island’s 50 most influential women by Long Island Business News.
LIBN’s Annual Awards Ceremony was another huge success this year, honoring Long Island’s women business leaders and philanthropists, including Colleen West. The event, which was attended by nearly 1,000 guests, took place on May 15th at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, NY, where an entertaining and inspiring Keynote Speech was given by former award recipient, New York politician and businesswoman, Bernadette Castro.
The prestigious annual LIBN awards program was created to recognize the significant contribution women make to Long Island’s business community and to the region’s economy. The honorees represent the most influential women in business, government, education, and the not-for-profit fields, and are selected by a panel of business leaders based on professional accomplishment, mentoring and community involvement.
Ms. West was selected because of her 18 years of business ownership, and extensive philanthropic efforts, with organizations such as the Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities, The Bob Venero Children’s Foundation, VIBS, and United Cerebral Palsy of Suffolk County, where West currently serves on the Board of Directors. In addition, she is a member of several advisory boards, including the Long Island Business Institute, a proprietary college for professional business careers, as well as other civic organizations, such as the Sayville Chamber of Commerce and the Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, and has been featured on Cablevision’s, “Women of the New Century.”
She is a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), the National Association of Female Executives (NAFE), the National Court Reporters’ Association (NCRA), the National Association of Legal Secretaries and Paralegals and its Suffolk County Chapter, the American Association of Medical Transcriptionists (AAMT), the Medical Transcription Industry Alliance (MTIA), and the Long Island Healthcare Information Management Association (LIHIMA).
